But hard work is not a hobby, is it? And since it's definitely not, we have a problem here.
You are wrong, in warding off the bug...

I mean "HOBBY" and "HARD WORK".
Not the opposite of hobbies / hard work, hard work / hobbies, that's not it...

The real meaning, if you used to be a hobby ball, boxer, horse racing, and so on, if you stop playing gambling, it's good you are not too active in your past hobby, where there is a match you must be present, it all can attract you again in gambling because in your past hobby there is an element of gambling.

So, you turn to choose a simple life as it is "without gambling" with your family, of course if you stop gambling, the demand is "hard work" to meet the needs of your family.

That's the true meaning and understanding.

if you don't "work hard" your body will die because without the food you produce...

I still think I understood you right the first time. You mean we should switch to hobbies that don't have an element of gambling in them, right? And I mean, if gambling is the only way to relax from hard work, for some people, they simply can't get rid of all hobbies they really like, because all of us need some sort of relaxation. You can't tell someone who enjoys mountaineering: "Relax with scuba diving instead". It simply won't work.
