Im not sure if its because of the wording in the OP, but the hypothetical scenario laid out is self-explanatory. Having a limited set of resources is no excuse for being sloppy, and least of all for building a window display to the underlying project based on copy/paste scenarios. I mean, investing has a lot to do with trust, reason to be, and potential, and those factors are shattered by being sloppy.
A project that wants to sell itself to unknown investors should consider from the start which are the relevant marketing and project features, and amongst the former, having clear, honest exposure through communication channels (such as a website and social media channels) is paramount.
Once trust is broken with the community, it is bound to be extremely difficult to rebuild, lest the project is inherently seen as something outstanding itself in potential, and the copy/paste you mention be something very minor (i.e. not project related, but something along the line of TOS or similar, which tend to be alike, although normally supervised by a legal department or adviser, and not the guy creating the website).
