You can't protect Bitcoin in general but you can protect your coins. First, don't keep all coins you have in just one wallet and avoid online wallets. They are at least safe and max vulnerable to threats and hackers.
Also, definetely use hardware wallets, they are the best.

You are very right. The malware I said above can be due to outdated antivirus, we need to update the antivirus to its latest version. Hardware wallets are very safe, I consider Ledger nano the best because it is not expensive as trezor. Hot wallet can be gone for if the cryptocurrencies to save are less than $500. But if you have more than that to save, hardware wallets are far less prone to attack and are the best.
