From where are you sourcing the geographical co-ordinates you will be using?
- the poc recommends using map data.
Due to the movement of tectonic plates, global co-ordinates do not remain static over time
- true, you would need to choose a bigger search radius or recover from the old map data. I would not recommend it for long term storage anyways.
There is no substitute for writing your seed down on paper.
- it is true that it wont allways prevent humans from losing their keys. Either cause they cant remember or they choose a really weak password and a very popular location that an attacker might target. So basically it wont prevent people from being stupid, how could it.
However if you are in risk of losing your paper wallet for example in the refugee case, carrying it on you physically might be a bigger risk than forgetting it.
If you would burry a treasure in meatspace would you hide it at a popular place with weak access security?
Is the geographical co-ordinated just a random location or can this be a specific location that you pick? When I first read this wall of text, it looked like you are giving the co-ordinates? Reason why I ask, is the security issues if it takes your physical location, because it will compromise your actual location and then make you a target for a physical attack, if someone was able to track you down from the co-ordinates provided.
Also, hiding a broken up Private key online would not be a big deal for me, if I had to flee my country. I simply store pieces of the whole Private key in different online services that nobody would be able to decipher. The refugees could have done the same, if they just knew what to do.
