My job is to report when i see something "not ok" or fishy, the rest is up to the admins.
Your job? I didn't know you were a staff member. 
Reporting merit abuse is a good thing to do yes, but I don't see any case of abuse here. People can merit a post simply because they agree with it or think it adds something.
