One of the challenges healthcare workers face when treating this is the high personal risk of infection.

Hopefully hydroxycloroquine or one of the other drugs being looked at will be a game changer but until that is certain anyone dealing with this disease on a daily basis may want to consider taking some of the general immune boosting supplements. Some of these have randomized trial indicating they are helpful with influenza.

It should be emphasized that there are no guarantees that agents that help with influenza will help at all with coronavirus. However, since these supplements are considered generally safe they are worth worth looking at.

The following are the two supplements I have purchased and have on hand to take immediately if I develop any flu symptoms. I have also listed the studies that show these agents appear to be helpful with influenza.

Hopefully their protective effect will cross over to coronavirus although this is currently unknown.

Vitamin C

The relationship between vitamin C dosage and its effects on the duration of the common cold symptoms may extend to 6-8 grams per day.
