while going through bounty threads, I came across rewards in the form of stakes. like if you post 40 times on bitcointalk.org you will get 500 stakes. Does that mean you will get 500 coins?
stakes means coins or something else.
can somebody explain this?

No, the stakes will be your share to that bounty campiagn. You will never know how many tokens you will recieve until the campaign ended and all the stakes you have and other participants will be divided to the allocated tokens then at that moment you will only have idea how many token's is equivalent to your stakes.
