The benefits of creating quality topics is very simple;
1. You'll gain more knowledge.
one could argue that you should already have the knowledge before starting the topic and share that knowledge not to want to gain it after the fact. specially if it is a guide topic. i sometimes see such attempts that ends up being more misleading than being helpful.
There is this thing called "interaction" between users. Not because an individual created a topic, he would be the one to share knowledge. It is more of 'trading' knowledge because other people who would visit the topic you have started, could add or even correct the errors on your topic. They may oppose or agree with what you are talking about and in such way, gaining knowledge is happening. I have started a topic recently and it started purely due to the curiosity since I saw two sides.

I have decided to go with the side that such relationship exist although I still doubt that there could be other factors behind the crash. I used this as an example because in such way, I have learned about the things that confuses me, which were answered by other users.
