The version I have is 3.3.8. I followed the link in the app when I opened it and it said update available. My wallet has all my previous transactions listed so I don't understand how it would be a fake
That's the bad thing you did if you update the wallet from the link popup on Electrum older than 3.3.4.
Like the above said if you get the update on the right URL which is electrum org you don't need to be worry but there are still some fake websites look the same as electrum.org URL with little difference.
You have to confirm if what is the old version you use before you update it to the latest version?
