Know your hardware, know your limitations.
You could set it up on "Light" so that it doesn't burn the computer but still folds. You won't get much reward, but as stated earlier, this is not about money, it's about sience
On a laptop, you could also undervolt your CPU and GPU so that there's less power draw. A good CPU undervolt generally gives better performance too, due to less thermal throttling. ThrottleStop is a good tool for CPU undervolting and MSI Afterburner is good for GPU undervolting.
Even on a desktop, I'm personally folding with a 1080Ti set at 70% power target for better thermals and efficiency at a small performance loss.
