The number today doesn't matter alone, you have to look at how fast it's spreading to figure out how much damage it could ultimately do.

We went from 3k to 70k in the past month.  That's almost 24x.

If it keeps going at that rate it will be 1.6 million on May 5 and 38 million by June 5, and that's just at the peak.  After it peaks, it will drop much more slowly than it went up.
