This is interesting: How Gambling Saved FedEx from Going Bust

In 1973, Frederick Smith, the founder of FedEx, was on the brink of bankruptcy. He had no money to pay his employees, and his cargo plane pilots had to buy fuel with their own cash.

The founder of FedEx managed to save his company from failing thanks to a large win in blackjack. When he was denied a vital business loan, he took the last $5,000 and went to Las Vegas. He won $27,000 and pulled the company back up from its freefall. By 1976, FedEx was pulling in $3.6 million in revenue, and in 2014, it became one of the largest corporations, bringing in an annual revenue of $1.2 billion.

The story of Frederick Smith confirms that luck favours the brave, not those afraid of risk.
