Did you even read it? Data for the week ending 5/2 and lagging by 1-2 weeks. Other sources, like
the Johns Hopkins map, had 44k deaths around April 23 so it all adds up. 10 days from now CDC will show 60k+ like currently shown by real-time (or close to it) sources.
These stats are still inflated no matter how you cut it, because they include "with COVID" deaths as dictated by CDC reporting standards.
