They did not push out Gavin, he left on his own. Mike Hearn rage quit and also left, when he saw that he could not take control of the real Bitcoin (BTC) ... they then partnered to try to hard fork a competitive Alt coin and then they failed.
(Underestimating the support that they had in the community) 
CW is simply a Snake oil salesman and you have to be blind not to see it. It has nothing to do with his big blocker position, but rather the combined total of the lies that has been exposed over time.
The 1MB narrative is working like a charm and it is supported by the majority.
