As long as the blockhain is still alive and bitcoin isn't worth exactly 0 then mining would still be profitable, but most certainly not for everyone, there are a dozen of factors to be considered, probably the most obvious one is the power cost where you decide to run your mining gears, the first thing to do would be knowing how much do you pay per Kwh of electricity, and then use something like https://whattomine.com/asic to estimate your profit, say it shows a 12 months ROI, ask yourself, is there any other business that would give you better results? if yes, go ahead with that, if no, mine on.

Generally speaking and based only on my opinion, if you can't ROI in 6-8 months, you will probably not, simply because difficulty keeps rising and you might be forced to shut the gear down before you reach to that point, unless of course bitcoin price would to rally really high to save you, in that case one could argue that buying BTC would have been a better option.
