Certainly ledger and trezor are the bet of this list and should be recommended to any newcomer.
Both comtabile with electrum and also have their own softwares solutions.
The thing with hardware wallets is that they are costly and no newcomer will invest huge amounts in buying a hardware wallet, in fact I would recommend using any software wallet out of which you can export your private keys and also not to store any bitcoins on an exchange after buying them.
So electrum for PC and the official bitcoin wallet for the Android and other mobile devices should be the way to go.
