Scams are very common when it comes to Bitcoin, which is why the reputation that BTC still has is pretty bad considering that some perceive it as the money of criminals, terrorists and those who oppose the current financial system. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of cases like Bitconnect, but some are not known to the general public because they happened at the local level.

• OneCoin scam - 3 million users/damage from $4.9-$19.4 billion
• Bitconnect scam - 1.5 million users/damage $2.5–3.5b
• PlusToken - 100 000 users/damage $3 billion
• Bitcoin Savings & Trust - 10 000 users/damage $5.8 billion
• Pincoin and iFan - 32 000 users/damage $660 million
