Certainly ledger and trezor are the bet of this list and should be recommended to any newcomer.
Both comtabile with electrum and also have their own softwares solutions.

I agree, in the more extreme side of things, the most secure setup I saw for a wallet was a dude who got a cheap macbook pro solely as a storage unit, he encrypted the data in the laptop with a password only he knew. Created a node so he'd have to make sure the btc blockchain is up to date if he wants to send bitcoins out, so he will need internet conection to use it, his wallet file also encrypted with a password not written anywhere else. All of this locked in a safe.

A bit excessive but hey, unless they were pointing a gun to his head, probably nobody would be able to access those coins but him.
