Bitcoin, Tulip and Mythomania: Portrait of Craig Steven Wright aka "Faketoshi"
By Guillaume Moret-Bailly Published on June 21, 2020 at 12:00 pm
Craig Wright is once again in the news. This time he is suspected of having played an important role in the hack of the MT.GOX platform. After claiming authorship of Bitcoin. But also Iphone... We wonder how far Craig Wright will go? The character who embarrasses the entire Bitcoin community. Indeed, for years he has appeared as a notorious mythomaniac who represents the worst that can be done in the crypto industry. So, dive into the world of this Australian 50 year old who still wants - even against the stacking of the most absolute evidence - to claim the merits of the creation of Bitcoin.
Mythomania and legal woes in shambles even before the Bitcoin years!
When researching Craig Wright, one quickly realizes that there are elements that come up regularly.
The first thing is mythomania.
Indeed, if you listen to this character telling the story of his life, he would be the inventor of Bitcoin, but it doesn't stop there. Indeed, on his personal website. He highlights dozens of academic and professional certifications whose authenticity is difficult to verify. The genius who is going to save the world would therefore answer in the name of Craig Steven Wright.
If you look at this more closely. One quickly realizes that the biographical elements of this man are largely false. Like the PHD in Theology that he claims but does not mention the university that would have delivered him. Or his other PHD in Computer Science that he claims this time from the Australian University of Charles Sturt. The latter has denied having delivered the said PHD.
Craig Steven Wright a.k.a Faketoshi.
After mythomania, it is the judicial setbacks that seem to punctuate Craig Wright's life.
His worries with justice began in 2004 when the Australian Supreme Court sentenced him to one month in prison for failing to respect a trade agreement. Craig Wright made numerous attempts to appeal the decision, but to no avail. He was so convinced of his rightfulness that he appealed a second time, always without success. This story is typical of the character who seems to be closer to the caricature of the rogue entrepreneur than to the genius who invented Bitcoin aka Satoshi Nakamoto!
About ten years later. His house will be stormed by the Australian financial authorities. For further setbacks of his company at the time "Hotwire PE". Which had the goal of becoming the first Bitcoin bank in Australia. In 2015, Craig Wright as a good impostor thinks he'll make the coup of the century. This move is to persuade the general public that he is indeed the person who acted behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. A pseudonym that is quite simply at the origin of the creation of Bitcoin in 2008. He is now being sued by the family of David Kleiman. His partner in the Bitcoin adventure who accuses him of having stolen hundreds of thousands of Bitcoins worth billions of dollars today.
The soap opera Faketoshi or how Craig Wright wanted to appropriate Bitcoin.
Even if the soap opera is not over, we now know that Craig Wright is far from being Satoshi Nakamoto.
But that's what he tried to make everyone believe in 2015, seven years after the creation of Bitcoin. Just like today, the mystery surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto is then immense and absolute.
So, when the two magazines The Wired and Gizmodo release articles explaining that Craig Wright is the inventor of Bitcoin, who acted under the pseudonym of Satoshi, the general public is ready to believe it!
The articles published by the two magazines highlight evidence provided anonymously by people close to Wright. All the evidence presented in this first report will then be studied by specialists and all taken apart one by one!

Dorian Nakamoto who became the figure of Satoshi Nakamoto in spite of himself.
The figure of Satoshi (No resemblance to Craig Wright)
The damage is done. Craig Wright managed to associate his name with Satoshi Nakamoto and he intends to take advantage of it.
How's that? Simply by playing a strange game. Since Satoshi's identity is not known... He simply appropriates it in the hope that part of the general public will be ready to believe him. But all his attempts turn out to be failures!
The media will then play Wright's game. The Economist and the BBC, who don't know much about Bitcoin, will both in 2016 let people think that he is the originator of Bitcoin. The Economist article highlights a private key that was quickly analyzed by cryptographer Dan Kaminsky as not being Wright's property but a reused key. Once again, Craig's latent mythomania is exposed. Then in the interview given to the BBC he explains once again that he is Satoshi Nakamoto and that he will bring further evidence soon. Evidence that will never happen, as you will have understood, ever.
Craig Wright is the only one who is convinced that he created Bitcoin. So convinced that he even wants to patent the white paper published by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008. This book explains the creation and operation of the Bitcoin network. A patent that he will not get from the American justice system. Moreover, all the scientific articles he claims to have authored turn out to be mere plagiarism. So, if there's one thing Wright has mastered, it's always believing the saying, "Bigger is better."
The most hated character in the crypto community
Vitalik Buterin, the (real) creator of the Ethereum network explains during a conference that :
"Craig Wright is certainly not the originator of Bitcoin, because when you want to prove something and there are two possibilities to do so, one very simple to verify and the other very dubious and complicated to verify, the fact that you choose the second option proves in itself the impossibility for him to prove what he claims to be. »
Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum.
The other figure of the crypto community who denounces the lies and dubious actions of Craig Wright is Changpeng Zhao the CEO of Binance. He explained in one of his tweeting that
"Craig Wright was nothing more than a scam and investing in Bitcoin SV was like participating in a fraud. »
Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance.
Acting on his words, the Binance exchange then made the decision to no longer list Bitcoin SV. Craig Wright is one of the most hated characters in the crypto community, along with the inarguable John Mcafee and Richard Heart, who are also pretty much in their own right as the three new horsemen of the Bitcoin Apocalypse.
Bitcoin SV, Divide Bitcoin to Rule the World
Changpeng Zhao blames Craig Wright, among others, for significantly hindering the development of Bitcoin. According to him, all his actions and lies around Satoshi Nakamoto undermine the credibility of the entire Bitcoin community.
Craig Wright has been advocating for years for a division of the Bitcoin community.
Indeed, if Wright has not been able to prove that he was the originator of Bitcoin, he is trying to make up for it with the hard forks of Bitcoin. The Bitcoin Cash Hard Fork was scheduled for November 2018. But things did not go as planned and projects other than BCH were born. Bitcoin ABC, Bitcoin Unlimited and Bitcoin SV. It is this last movement that Craig Wright led, SV stands for Satoshi's Vision.
Wright wants to take advantage of the fork of the original Bitcoin to explain to the general public that the real Bitcoin is the Bitcoin SV which he completely personifies in one Craig Wright movement.
Bitcoin SV inarnation of the character.
If Satoshi is indeed the originator of Bitcoin, he does not mention any nickname in his name. The SV Bitcoin that claims to be the nickname of the genius creator could in fact be called Bitcoin CW for Craig Wright.

Thus, the portrait of Craig Wright takes on a new facet, that of an enormous jealousy and a gift for taking things he didn't create. Whether in his academic work, in the professional world and of course in the crypto industry. I hope his friends, community, partners, family and investors realize they're being brainwashed, BitCoin is Bitcoin. BTC is the real BiTcoin That's the story that said it.
