I'm not in Canada but the best think you need to do is to report about the incident to the proper authorities in your country and present a strong evidence so that they will be sued, this is suggested by many people so hopefully you will do it since you can help others to became educated on what you experience here and next time don't invest online without knowing the real score of the project.
