If you make several transactions a day then it is important for you. Someone making few transactions a week is not a big deal though.

Sometimes those people who care less are the reason for the high fees in the pool. They do not look at the current fees level instead they follow the suggested fees by the wallets and ends up paying high fees for them and also others get effected by it. As a result we see pile of unconfirmed TXes.
