Now the narrative of vatalik about high fee has been totally changed it is a big joke while in the beginning they were claiming low transactions fee is good. It is happening because of DEFI and now insane pump of ETH. I also think it will become worse scenario in future when people have to pay more high fee.
Truth is he probably never expected ETH to be this big. That why the upgrade is much need. In the last few weeks i have been paying way less (10 - 20 times less) in Bitcoin Transaction fees as compared to ETH transaction fees
