Reasonable edge? Yes. Countable? Yes. Waste of time? Yes. 8 deck 50% pen is actually garbage and you'll probably barely see a true count over 1.5 for most of your games. Good luck trying to turn a profit at those numbers.

Betting systems don't work. Martingale may be shitty, but so is this d'Alembert strategy, and so too will be the other systems that hinge on modifying the bet amount after some event that is unrelated to the game itself.
