Exactly. They're toys, they're conversation pieces, they might become collectibles, they might be fine if you ever want to mine a very low diff altcoin with sha256d as it's POW algo, they can be a learning tool,they can mine on some testnets (not bitcoin's testnet tough, the diff is to high)... But for bitcoin mining, they're pretty much useless.
I did the calculations a long time ago, but if i remember correctly you were better off buying an actual lottery ticket for your country's lotto system than buying a mining stick and use it as a lottery device.
