Indeed, better to buy old reputable alt coins rather than new enlisted ones because they are the one which will get benefited by the hype. They are already mature thus they can easily get influenced by the price hike of btc and other major coins. But if you really insist to go with the cheaper ones then it's up to you (you have hundreds of options to choose from). But assess your your resources and emotion first whether you can gamble and get out of the safer zone.
