When I started my first full-time job, there was an older guy working there who drank fairly heavily on his time off.  One afternoon he called work saying "I'm not coming in tonight because I won the lottery!  I fucking quit!"  Turns out he had gotten a printout of the winning numbers from the convenience store (which was printed on the same paper the tickets are printed on) and proceeded to check that slip against the numbers printed in the newspaper.  He was back to work for the next night sober and somber.   Everyone knew he had won the lottery and "quit" so he took a lot of heat over that.
