Discord have what all the other popular chats have and that's make it so good imo.

You have channels/rooms like we had in IRC back in the days. Personally my favorite feature mainly from nostalgia.

You have group voice chat with different rooms like teamspeak.

You can chat 1on1 like on skype/messenger/etc.

The only thing it's missing is video chat.
