You're right on all of this. I'm not able to run something like this on a day-to-day basis - I can build a site and maintain it, but don't have time to deal with sourcing and delivering product (I also have a company I need to run). So if anyone is interested in partnering on something like this, let me know. (I really haven't made any decisions yet, though, just thinking out loud. I really appreciate all of the help you all are giving).

Heh, if I didn't already have my fill of retail already;  I would be inclined to help on the purchasing.  From this perspective though, whoever is runs acquisition;  would need a DBA or LLC.

- Another thing to consider from a sales point of view is maybe; small value high volume items only.  Thermal compound, risers, cheap memory etc.  Things that may be purchased on a smaller interim, that could allow for an overall limited stock.

*As well, I just had another thought.....possibly the best solution if practical.

What about this;

 Don't setup a store, setup a "sales portal" (tm)

What you could do then, is have this "portal" connected to a store that already accepts BTC (newegg, tiger etc).   However this can work just the same with Dollars.   If a customer wishes to make a purchase from newegg, but with UTC;  they would come to the UTC sales portal.  They could enter the item number on the portal site / or the page listing from said store.  The portal would then get the purchase price from the store (newegg) and compare that to UTC price.   A few percent could be added for the service of course.  The customer could then just see the UTC price of the item they added to the portal.   The actual purchase would be made in the sales portal and would just need to have details and address inputted to the originating store.

I'm not a site designer, but it would seem possible if not fairly simple to do this method.   This would eliminate all purchasing, stocking, overhead etc.  issues;  while at the same time, offering a low price.

EDIT:

making it peer to peer is much less work to maintain then an actual store selling products.....i think this is the route to go...

i think we should integrate a user that is UTC official.....then we can offer things like the usb stick somebody suggested.....i will then source these things or other partners.... then "the house" can offer products, and the profit go to benefit the development of utc

This sounds very similar to the "level" of market being discussed.  I don't think anyone is considering a brick and mortar store.  Really it would be a couple people getting products to offer.  So, it would be (I believe) very similar to what you describe.

If we do more peer items;  I do have about 30 riser cables brand new.  I imagine I could come off a few or 20  Grin
