The type or kind of project depends on each person's risk appetite so for a conservative investor like me i will stick to the top coins only. I only buy other coins when i see almost ideal situation or if i get paid in them otherwise i take most other coins seem very risky to me maybe because of huge losses during last bears season.
I have the same opinion with you, until now I have only invested in top coinmarketcap. Basically I am not a trader and more like a hodler, therefore I always invest in top altcoins because the risk is much less compared to new coins or tokens even though the price movements are good, but that's not the reason the project will be successful in the long term.
