I guess I really need to start sniping them back because guessing like 1000 more than someone else isn't nice. It would be nice if we could do it by closest guess.
Doing it by closest guess would make the game more fair for people who aren't online all the time because it discourages sniping rather than encorurage it. Let's say for example the guesses are 10,000 and 20,000.
If it's highest guess under wins, then I would guess 10,001 because then anytime it lands in between 10001 and 19999 I win. However, if it's closest guess, guessing 10,500 and 10,001 is the same as there are 500 numbers in which you win in both cases. In fact, closest guess would discourage sniping because if you guess 10001, someone else might guess 10002 which would hurt you a lot. In contrast, if you guess 10500, you don't really care if someone guesses 10,501 because there are still 250 numbers where you would win.
Of course, there might be times where two people guess 10,001 and 10,003 and the actual number is 10,002. In that case we can agree to split the prize I think.
Also agree with bitmover. Something like a 30 post limit shouldn't be too hard for a newbie to achieve but a 30 post limit would make it significantly harder for someone to use alts.
That's what this game has become now, a game of sniping. I have to admit, i also do it all the time and that's because that's the only way you can get a chance at winning.If you make your prediction in the first couple of hours, there's a 99.99% someone will bet 1000-2000 bets higher than you(unless you make a crazy prediction that no one would make)
But in my opinion sniping is kind of necessary in this game if you want to have a chance. That's because everyone knows the approximate number of bets every 24 hour (around 300k to 400k). Given the fact that there are so many participants it's very hard for each of them to have their own unique prediction. Besides that, there are some people that might just think about a prediction similar to yours so the only thing left for them to do is to bet 100 or 1000 bets higher than you.
There's nothing Hhampuz can do about this, because getting each prediction in PM would take lots of time and it's unnecessary for him. Sniping is not cheating for sure, sure no one likes it when it happens to them but i guess for people that have lots of time available it's an advantage.
