I also noticed that way, even though the things that every newbie (member) need to do to receive merit is useful and helpful, it should also have some important requirements so other newbies wouldn't abuse the merit giveaway, I suggest that they should include this requirement:
1. 3 months+ old in this forum
2. Must include some quality topics they created.

These are just only my suggestion, it still up to the OP to decide what he wants it to be.
