Also assuming you were to input your seed in this device( and not over a phishing site using advanced recovery) how would your seeds be sent to the malicious actor.

I can only confirm to you what DdmrDdmr wrote, and that is that at least as far as I know there is no documented case of someone being hacked in a way that he/she used fake Trezor wallet. But if such a device existed, then it would be modified in such a way that it sends all the information to someone, and that would of course include seed. I don't think you need to worry too much about it, as long as you buy the device from an authorized reseller.

I think situations like this can serve as a warning to anyone who uses hardware wallets that it is always necessary to have a backup plan when such a device breaks down. I have solved this by having 2 hardware wallets, so if one breaks I don't have to order a new one nor do I have any need to import seed into any other crypto wallet. It may seem like an expensive solution, but I have noticed that most members who are very careful about security have at least 2 hardware wallets - and given the discounts offered occasionally it is possible to buy 2 HW for the price of one.
