I never had bought a hardware wallet in my life and I usually use paper wallets to secure my long term investments the only issue is paper can degrade in the long term which could be really bad for investment that's why I have 3 copies of wallet and laminate them so that they can last long.
This is the reason why you need to have other alternative backup not only relying in one paper wallet , paper can easily be destroy for one accident that can happen for example is from burning or if some one use that as scratch paper without knowing what is the character inside.
