There's is no way that an altcoin will overtake bitcoin. Bitcoin is the mother of all altcoins, even ethereum cannot win against bitcoin.
In near future it does not seems that anybody rise above and beyond bitcoin, as its being more than decade where bitcoin has been leading the way and all bull run depends upon the bitcoin and then only altcoins start to rise. Though quite possible that some of them may come somewhere close to it which again will depend how effective and how much utility that coin has.
