Although there is a scientific consensus that your winning in a lottery doesn't affect your luck in a poker game 30 mins later, we gamblers secretly believe, somewhere deep down in our hearts, that if we lose one thing, we are gonna be luckier in the next one. So for us it's a win-win situation: we either win in the lottery, or going to have more luck in the finals. 
In the last series I won first place in lottery and first place in runners-up tournament!
