Polkadot still has a lot of hype behind the project especially because of Gavin Wood. Tons of developers moved their focus from ETH to the DOT ecosystem. DOT can really pull next ethereum but, it can't replace ethereum (IMO).
Right now, I am heavily invested in DOT.
im not sure about tons of developers but i can't deny the fact if there were some defi who have been trying to drive the hype of polkadot. These projects were issuing the assets use the parachain.
This coin is the same like EOS when it was getting introduced by block.one. There were so many expectations about EOS and this time people know that if that's only the hype and no more.
Chainlink is quite better than eos in governance.
