This is an announcement thread posted by primary developer (I assume) for communication purposes. I would expect it to have updates w.r.t. ongoing development, new features, plans, news, etc.
Is this info available elsewhere? Maybe.
Should it also be available here for convenience and better visibility of the project? Definitely.
