I still can't figure out what my private keys are exactly so I am fearful of doing anything at all because I may accidentally give them out.

As a side note I am amazed how people who think Bitcoin will become the currency of the future cannot see the obvious reason it will not.
Because it is so complicated to use, but more importantly, the complexity it creates causes real fear of losing everything with one wrong click.
The fear is the reason.
