Where did the smell come from?

Check all your wiring (including the sockets and any surge protectors) for any signs of burning, if you spot any take that cable and bin it. And test all your PSU's outside of your rigs by "hot-wiring" them to start attached to a fan or something, last thing you want is for a damaged PSU to surge out into your rig.

If available, always keep an electrical use safe fire extinguisher in an easy to reach place when mining, they cost like $20 from your local fire station and believe me, if the worst did happen that $20 is a lot cheaper than your house, or even your family.
