As project developers you've come at least several projects that may have succeed. I tried to search but didn't find any almost.
Have you ever seen any self-funded coin/token/ico that has goodly succeeded and the project costed less than 5,000,000 USD?

There's a lot of this in the market coins that are self-funded and do not go through any crowdfunding, one of these is IDENA, and the coin that I'm promoting right now Bitgesell, both are mining based and they are both on the market, and apart from that they are newly launched making them one of the coins with good potential.
