Not sure what you consider ordinary people, but most people in my environment are concerned about their wellbeing and jobs, pay with cash or a card, and barely scrape investments further than what the bank may render as interest (which is close to null where I am now). There are likely cultural and generational factors to ponder, as well as the country’s economic welfare (i.e. dire needs boost the search for alternatives, and accommodated situations may venture diversification into uncharted territories).

Bitcoin may ring a bell from time to time (not necessarily on a sharp key tone) in my ecosystem, but for those ordinary people, or commons, getting into something like bitcoin doesn’t even cross their minds for the vast majority of them. Let alone if we have to get them into having to learn to be their own banks, managing a wallet, being super-duper careful with  their security and the TXs they send/receive, venture for taxation on benefits, be alert for scammers, check/set TX fees, etc.

These things that we, those the forum for example, understand and manage to the best of our abilities, are a light years away from the capabilities of many, thus the flourishment of entities like Paypal to lighten the load, at the cost of quite a few key features.
