It is a hard choice because it can either make you rich or let you down so badly that you cannot recover from it for almost all your life. I have seen both kinds of cases where people quit their jobs and started doing something they liked and wanted to do, I have seen both kinds of results - Calamity and Blessing.
If you are able to risk everything but passionate to try something new, I would say go for it and pursue what you want. If you have the slightest doubt in your mind about what you will do has any chance of failure, then I would not recommend taking the risks.
There are kids who abandon their studies to focus on Youtube as a career, now not everyone is successful but anyone who dedicates his life towards it will certainly succeed. The key factor is "to believe in yourself even when things are adverse". I remember Dana White once said in an interview that he was fortunate to realize he wanted to be in this MMA industry and that helped him focus despite failures.
