The problem is that actually the fake projects are able to gain the highest attention because all their focus is actually about promoting their coins and being more active within the community or telegram so that people feel connected. I would rather look who are are the team members of the project and if known names are there, like if Vitalik Buterin is associated with a coin, they will at least be decently successful if not become the next big thing.

I think despite Bitcoin being created by an anonymous group or person Satoshi, I have to admit that who is behind a cryptocurrency plays a massive role in the current market and some big names are already established who can just walk into any project and make it successful without actually doing much. Imagine if Satoshi was here and created a new project, what kind of response the market would have given to it.
