All those that understand Croatian/Serbian shouldn't have any doubt whether Lauda is a male or female. Among other things, we have  genders for verbs in past tense and adjectives. In his posts made in Croatian board,  Lauda always used masculine gender. I remember some time ago I was so bored that I actually tried to find posts where he used feminine gender, to no avail.

Just an example from one of his posts. Adjectives and verbs are bolded, all masculine gender.

Razumio sam sada.

Ne bih rekao ali u svakom slucaju ne bih ti preporucio.

Da nisam procitao ovu temu ne bih ni skontao . Zauzet sam nesto trenutno, ali bar ima srece s ovom cijenom. Grin

This is how it would look like if it was written using feminine gender

Maybe Lauda wanted to hide his gender right from the beginning,

I know that if I were a woman, I would consider either pretending to be a man on this forum, or leaving my identity wholly ambiguous; and I myself am sufficiently careful to alter my linguistic usage in every detail, in any language. [...]

but somehow I think that he had just a bit of fun with people guessing it because of his name ends with an "a"

“Lauda” is an actual given name—a feminine name, derived from Latin.  You may confirm this in any competent reference on onomastics.  It means “praise”; and it is etymologically related to a number of English words, such as “laudatory”. [...]

None of this is inconsistent with the Croatian posts to which you refer (a point previously raised by marlboroza in English Reputation).

Perhaps you should verify with other Croation/Serbian well known posters such as Marlboroza to verify the grammar used by the persona "Lauda" was indeed male in vocabulary.
Again?

Thinking for myself:  If I were a Croatian girl, and I wanted to chat about Bitcoin without getting hit on by thirsty crypto-nerds, I would know how to use the Croatian language to make myself appear to be male.  Also, I would set my profile page to “Male”.  LaudaM’s original profile page said “Male”, as I have known for years.

I think that Lauda was female, because her behaviour was consistently too feminine for a man.  Men who pretend to be women don’t act that feminine—not in a thousand subtle ways, not consistently over a long period of time.  On the flipside, women who pretend to be men can’t consistently hide that subtly feminine behaviour in the long term.  They can talk sort of like men; they can get along with the guys; but their femininity ultimately shows through.

I believe it started as a joke, everyone was referring to Lauda as "he" and at one point someone said "she" then someone else said "laura" and everyone start screaming "he is she!".
That explanation makes sense. Someone started it, it spread and then he didn't want to spoil the fun so he let people guess it. And since he was mainly active in English board it wasn't  really hard thing to do.

People probably noticed that Lauda acted like a woman, and then she just let it be ambiguous.  For privacy, she liked for her whole identity to be mysterious; and anyway, the question is unimportant when discussing Bitcoin.  Don’t forget that Lauda understood Bitcoin on a very deep level, much moreso than almost everyone who is not a Development & Technology regular.

IRL, I have known highly intelligent, motivated women who almost perfectly matched Lauda’s personality.  Aristocratic, mother-of-Napoleon types who crushed weaklings without quite noticing their existence, and functioned perfectly well in a man’s world because they are tougher and smarter than most men.  (Wherefore they are oftentimes lonely, because it is difficult for them to find a man whom they don’t despise—but I digress.)  So...

You will not convince me that Lauda was a man.  I probably will not convince you that Lauda was a woman.  Her identity will remain an enigmatic crypto-puzzle, delivered with the wry grin of the disappearing Cheshire cat in Alice’s crypto-wonderland.  😼
