As you can see the 18 men squad, already 4 openers are sitting there (KL Rahul, Rohit, Sikhar, Gill). Hard to add another opener in the squad, competition is tough but Prithvi Shaw/Devdutt Padikkal time will come as Sikhar Dhawan seems to losing his charm nowadays. They will move up to the ranks anyway in the next 2-3 years.
Shikhar Dhawan is well past his prime. If he doesn't perform in the next 2-3 outings, then he should be dropped from the squad and sent back to his domestic team (Delhi). Devdutt deserves a chance now, after performing consistently with the bat over the last two years. Almost everyone else have got a chance, including Shaw, Gill, Kishan and Surya. So I don't know why Devdutt is getting overlooked.
The Indian board has a lot of young talented players. Those who are unable to express their abilities due to lack of opportunities. If they get a chance in the national team, maybe they will be able to perform well. They should be given a chance. Although many players have done well in the domestic league, but they have failed to deliver as expected in the national team. Yet the board should give young players a chance. As if there will no shortage of qualified players for the Indian national team in the future.
