In some cases putting miner horizontally on one or other side fixes the problem temporarily, but only permanent solution is to fix the faulty hashboard(s) or RMA the unit.
It's happened to one of my S17+, and I tried as you said and it worked 
. It's been like this for awhile, hopefully it will stay like that.I'm thinking of getting new PSU for backup, because it seems havin problem with the voltage.
