Messi at this age is a key player, consistent ++ and playing better than young ones in the team. With the current switch in Barca and with a good contract everything should be fine. City seems to be more interested in Haaland which makes things harder. Additionally, Barca is getting closer to the title, their next game is vs Valladolid while ATM might drop points vs Sevilla.. Things will be more clear by the last 2-3 games tho.
