Diverting attention can relieve the pain. I usually lie in bed to sleep when it is very painful. When I fall asleep, I can't feel it anymore.

Same strategy for me when I am in pain I would force myself to sleep and hope that it would be okay when I wake up or at least the pain would be lessen.
It would also depend on how I could lessen it sometimes I would make myself busy by reading manga or watching movie,
I would do whatever I could just to lessen it until it goes away.
