Sometimes it is just fate. Poker is a good example. When you have 10 show downs in a row and are an 80:20 favorite ever single time but you lose it all, that's fate in my opinion. Even if you control yourself and keep playing a solid style, there is not much you can do. Luck is against you, which I would say equates to fate.

Fate doesn't exist, much less in poker. What you call Fate is pure variability of short term results, but a winning poker player even though he has those unfavorable short term results, because he makes EV+ moves, or moves that are profitable in the long run.

After all, what is meant by self-control means that you can just get out of the game when you win, if you continue to play without control then you are greedy and defeat will obviously be experienced and that is not fate. Because that way we can always control fate if you have control over yourself, try gambling with something that you can control and not you who are controlled by gambling.

It's perfect when you practice this kind of control, quitting after winning something or quitting before you lose everything inside your bankroll, most gamblers continue to play even they'll already  exceeded with their limitations.

Greed is the number one factor that affects each gamblers, it's not fate but it's your self-will to manage yourself and your emotiond towards this activities.

You've got some good advantage if you know how to work with your emotions.
