Totally agree, fate just a excuse for us to console ourselves, the reason is lack of control,if you keep gambling without control, might be you could win one or twice, but you would lose finally. This is a normal phenomenon for a gambler.
Gamling just for fun,not for life.
It's about the intent that you have when starting. Do you playing for fun / for getting entertained or to get your daily dose of gambling addiction? Take it as entertainment that pays sometimes for playing, and the full control will be in your hands.
Maybe we can say that playing gambling is just for fun or entertainment, but as time goes, our reason for playing gambling can change. And once we see that we can win for some time, we will try to use gambling to make money. We will use more money to make money but the fact is we never make that money instead, we just lose more money.

Gambling is a way to get fun, whether we play alone or with friends so we need to have control in gambling. Otherwise, we will lose too much money without we realize.
This style of entertainment increases the euphoria too much after each participation, the feelings of victory and defeat are the special spices of gambling, these spices seem to make us drop our selves, sobering then quarantine is okay but feeling these spices every day will easily be fascinated and become an addicting puppet. Again, vigilance and control are a matter of special attention and priority but the fact that when they fail is that many people deny responsibility and force fate to take on everything, they feel they are not at fault.
